General Description
To provide a well-rounded Christian Music program that will be beneficial to
every age group that will further enhance their dedication and commitment to
Jesus Christ our Savior and His Church.
Responsibilities
and Duties
v
To direct the planning, coordination, operations and evaluation of a
comprehensive music program for First United Methodist Church in conjunction
with the calendar and emphasis of the Church.

The Choirs are to include:
v
Children's Choir K-3
v
Children's Choir 4-6
v
Tone Chimes K-3
v
Tone Chimes 4-6
v
Youth Choir 7-12
v
Ledbetter Class Choir/Ensemble
v
Chancel Choir Adults
v
To develop music groups, utilize soloists, instrumentalists, etc., in regular
and special worship services or programs.
v
To be responsible for enlisting and training leaders for the Music Program.
v
To supervise the work of all music leaders I the music program.
v
To recruit new choir members for all ages groups through visits, letters, cards,
announcements, notices or telephone.
v
To be available to counsel, arrange and/or provide music for funerals, weddings,
and other special services related to the ministry of the Church family.
v
To encourage the study of voice for those qualified, as well as participation in
Church Music seminars for vocal and hand bell choirs.
v
To serve as music resource person to the Pastors, Worship committee, Music
committee, Church School and Age-level ministries, etc.
v
To attend administrative meetings and to serve as an ex-officio member and
advisor to the above state areas of ministry along with the Administrative
Council of the Church.
v
To prepare budgetary recommendations to the Committee on Finance for matters
related to the Music Ministry.
v
To maintain all the property of the Church related to music ministry (robes,
tone chimes, hand bells, piano, organ (in cooperation with the Organist),
carillon, folders, music room, and music library.
v
To be responsible for substitutes when unavailable due to vacation, sickness or
emergencies.
v
To utilize the Church facilities for special music programs involving the
community (i.e. combining other choirs and/or musical organizations for special
performances.
v
To maintain a proficiency in the Keyboard Instrument.
v
To take advantage of opportunities for continuing education in the field of
Church Music.
Supervisory
Controls
The Music Director shall work under the supervision of the Pastor and the Staff
Parish Relations Committee as described in the “Basic Employment Policy”.
Contract Hours
A minimum of 25 hours

Two weeks vacation with pay and two weeks of continuing education
with pay.

A Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and Experience in Church Music
