Roland McGregor grew up in Asbury United Methodist Church in El Paso, Texas. After graduating from The University of North Texas, he taught vocal music and German in the El Paso Public Schools. He served as a Youth Director and Choir Director in Methodist churches before becoming the Executive Director of Houchen Community Center, a Methodist Settlement House in a Mexican migrant ghetto in El Paso. In 1969, he entered Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University. He is serving his ninth appointment in the New Mexico Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has a blended family of three sons and a daughter, all grown and married. He and his wife Darla Biggers McGregor of Melrose, New Mexico, have seven grandchildren.
At the beginning of a leave of absence in 1996, Roland began a service to preachers and teachers using the Internet. Each week he has written and distributed a reflection on the Lectionary texts for the coming Sunday, not written as a sermon itself but designed to stimulate the readers own sermon preparation. In the summer of 1999, he began writing a childrens message to compliment the Lectionary theme for the week. It is a free service with over six hundred subscribers. The material is also posted on their respective web pages, listed as links in other web based preaching resources and posted to the web site of the Australia Council of Churches.
