"Administration:  How to lead a church"

The training for clergy goes into high gear in the beginning of the first pastorate.  Seminaries seldom give training in administration.  Yet, the practical day to day problems of operating a church present the most challenging roles of  the ministry for most clergy.  We are appointed or called to organize and lead  the church.  The responsibility exists when we arrive on the site to begin our ministry. It comes with the keys of the church.  We have to fill it.  Some immature persons think they have "to take" leadership.   They assure the people that they are the boss.  They will make the decisions.  Such a tack usually alienates an unhealthy number of the laity immediately.   Why try to take such a position when everyone knows you are there to lead.  The leadership task is yours.  Try to give it up and see what happens.

If the church is any size at all the task of administrating the church, and seeing all the areas of ministry are effective will necessitate some help.  Your biggest task will be to get the help you will definitely need to do the job.  People can be motivated to do any and every thing.  Few will tolerate being bossed.  This page will present one very successful method of leading and motivating the laity in doing ministry.
